Dental Sealants in Medford, OR
Long-lasting protection for your teeth.
Dental sealants for kids and adults
A dental sealant is a clear material that’s painted onto your tooth’s surface. The goal of this treatment is to “seal” the pits and grooves of your teeth, creating a shield that blocks out germs and keeps bacteria from damaging your enamel.
In molar teeth, sealants reduce your risk of decay by nearly 80%!
At our office, we often recommend this treatment for people of all ages, but especially for children who often can’t properly maintain clean teeth. Add a dental sealant treatment to your next cleaning and exam visit!

How Tooth Sealants Work
Here’s what you can expect from a dental sealant procedure:
- We’ll start with a clean mouth (we usually do this treatment at the end of a dental cleaning)
- Your hygienist will paint a thin, protective layer of resin on the surface of all or some of your teeth
- Wait an hour or so before drinking or eating anything
That’s it! Fast, easy, and highly effective. Just remember — dental sealants are not a replacement for at-home brushing and flossing. Make sure to keep up on your daily oral hygiene habits!
Tooth Sealant FAQs
How long do sealants last on your teeth?
When combined with good brushing and flossing habits, you can typically expect to stop 80% of cavities for 2 years and 50% of cavities for 4 years. We can replace your sealant as needed as the effectiveness wears off.
Are sealants covered by dental insurance?
Since this treatment is a preventive procedure, it is often covered under your dental coverage plan. Contact our office to verify your coverage and cost to you. We also offer options for those without insurance.
Why do I still need to have my teeth cleaned twice a year?
Yes. While dental sealants protect against cavities, routine professional dental cleanings are still needed to keep bacteria-filled tartar from building up and hurting your gums or causing decay.
